SCULPTURE
"My insides are burning." "They are rotting." These are translated phrases that Koreans conventionally use to express their distress. 'Insides' refers to organs such as the intestine and liver. Drastic as it sounds, human emotions are often connected to body parts not only physiologically but also in verbal expressions. If the distress is not bearable, threatening one's own life, it may be reasonable to involve a vital organ in its expression. Heart is the one.
Wood burns and rots. In the context above, wood shares those with a heart. Mor Ro chose to carve a heart when he practiced wood sculpting. Two different styles of representation were tried: realistic and abstract.
