SCULPTURE
SCULPTURE
Handicrafts are no longer the same as in the old times. Machines and mass production replaced them long ago. Still, many people find the handicrafts attractive and learn the techniques and practice the skills, which makes not so much for a living except a certain amount of pleasure. Handicrafts seem to be more like a leisure activity, hiking in the forest, for instance, than a way of living. Some say that the handicrafts are the future of industrialization. That future hasn't come yet, but people don't stop enjoying the future. This opinion was visualized with a sculpture.
This sculpture is comprised of three different materials: clay, wood, and steel. They represent each field of handicrafts and the culture around them. The small clay figure of a hiker was carved, fired, painted, and glued to the small walking path on a piece of firewood with tall rustic nails standing around.
